1. Who are you?
I’m Tom. Hello.

2. Where are you now?
Sitting at my dining table in north west London, thinking about what to make for supper.

3. What do you do when you’re not travelling?
I’m a director at a creative studio in London. I’m often working on all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Right now I’m making a film.

4. What was the last piece of music you listened to?
Richard Skelton – Undertow. It’s just absolutely beautiful.

5. Tell us briefly the travel story you shared in LOST Issue Six.
It’s a surreal piece about an extremely unusual place. I was in Malaysia, a good 100km from Kuala Lumpur in an industrial park. Instantly when I arrived I felt an eerie surge through my body and the inherent need to bottle this feeling. For some reason the best way to do this was by following the stray dogs.

6. What do you love about travel?
It makes me wiser, more understanding and generally a better person—I think.

7. What do you hate about travel?
Chatty airplane passengers. I find the trick is to not make eye contact—ever.

8. Do you like to travel alone or with people? Why?
With people—but not too many. I’ve been travelling alone before and I’m often reminded of a scene from Alex Payne’s short film Paris je t’aime where the lone traveller looks out from the Eiffel tower and says, “When I saw all of Paris, I wanted to say to someone, ‘isn’t that beautiful’, but there was nobody there.”

9. What do you think about during travel?
If I can imagine myself living there. What would my house look like? Could I find a job? Would anyone visit me? Do I even like the food here?

10. Any future travel plans?
I spent most of last year travelling. This year I’m playing it safe and exploring Puglia, in the heel of Italy. They deep fry pizza there, sounds good already, right?

我是 Tom。你好。

Richard Skelton – Undertow。
